Community Service/Civic Responsibility
We achieve the goals of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. through volunteerism – we serve to make a change. We actively engage in coalition efforts and are currently partnering with the American Heart Association, Association of Black Cardiologists, Habitat for Humanity, March of Dimes and the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.
National Youth Service Recognition
Community service is the hallmark of a servant leader and is the underpinning of the Jack and Jill of America, Inc. philosophy of leadership development. For this reason, Jack and Jill youth across the country that complete at least 25 hours of community service receive certificates of recognition. Jack and Jill is also proud to have established a National Day of Service held each January to make a difference in the community. In addition, regional community service projects under the leadership of the Member-at-Large (MAL) elected officers for each region are held in conjunction with seven regional Teen Leadership Conferences held each year. The National Program Director serves as the Liaison to the MALs. Jack and Jill of America, Inc. will continue to be an organization that serves the community through its efforts and that of the Jack and Jill of America Foundation. Likewise, we will continue to train our children to be servant leaders.
Jack and Jill America, Inc. – Chapter seeks to empower our youth in part, by emphasizing OUR heritage. Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. We are teaching our children that they carry a legacy of “survivors, strivers, and overcomers” and through this they are honoring their culture as African-Americans.
Jack and Jill of America, Inc. supports the STE[+a]M framework for our educational thrust. STE[+a]M is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. The idea of emphasizing these subjects is rooted in helping youth develop self-confidence around scientific/technical subject matters as well as promoting creative thought and innovation.
Financial Literacy, is one of the thrusts that our grade groups will focus on. We want our children to understand how to make wise decisions and utilize best practices when it comes to financial matters. Jack and Jill utilizes Financial Literacy Modules to offer youth ages 6-19 an opportunity to participate in mock stock market simulations, basic financial training and real world opportunities to learn the principles of responsible money management first-hand
Jack and Jill of America, Inc. – Chapter supports healthier lifestyles for our Mothers and our families. Through the Healthy Living Initiative, we strive to inspire our children to lead healthier lives and motivate our local community to embrace healthy lifestyles choices.
Leadership Development is another thrust that our organization is implementing this activity year. Mothers plan various activities for the younger children per grade group that will help and encourage them to become positive and successful leaders of tomorrow. They incorporate in their activities, lessons that will teach the children that they can be leaders of today. These lessons implement principles of how a young leader is respectful, responsible, and a motivated learner; allows others to observe their good deeds; and asks questions about things that they are curious about, and be the first person to initiate a discussion.
One of our primary goals is to promote and endorse legislation aimed at improving the environment in which all children live. This goal mirrors that of Jack & Jill nationally. Chapter members are encouraged to meet and discuss the issues affecting our children.
Jack and Jill of America, Inc. recognizes the importance of family fun, fellowship and camaraderie. The Recreational/Social Thrust is a nod to that fact. Our Chapter supports this thrust in its celebration of Jack and Jill Day, Holiday Parties, Teen Socials, and The Annual Family Picnic.
